Why We Do What We Do

On behalf of the St. James Catholic School Parent Association, I would like to welcome the new St. James families to our school community, and welcome back our returning families to another great year here at St. James.

The beginning of the year always seems so busy, with getting supplies together, buying new uniforms, the New Family Network event, attending Back to School Night, our Family Bar-B-Que, and the Gift Wrap Sale – all within just the first few weeks.

There’s going through the first family envelope of the year, having to get back in the habit of setting the alarm for the kids in the morning, packing lunches, covering textbooks, putting names on the lunch pails, and correcting homework after dinner.
Don’t forget putting the finishing touches on the class projects for the Silent Auction, getting the kids primped for the school pictures, the beginning of practices for boy’s football and girl’s volleyball, signing up for shifts at the Harvest Festival, and we haven’t even set the clocks to “Fall Back” yet.

So WHY do we put ourselves through all this hustle and bustle every year?  You think we’d learn, right?  We do it for our children, that’s why!  THEY are why we do what we do.

It would be much easier to send your child to the school around the corner from your house and save money on all that gasoline – but you don’t.  You could save on tuition and avoid having to perform 30 hours of service to your school by enrolling your child in the public school in your local district, but you don’t.  Our Catholic religion, values and high academic standards are why you’re here!

Whatever the reason you have for making the sacrifice of sending your child to St. James, you should know that as parents we also need to play an active role in their education process and environment.  This year you will have many chances to do so, and I look forward to seeing all of you around the campus.  Whether it’s at a social event like the Bar-B-Que or Spaghetti Dinner, a fundraiser like the Gift Wrap Sale or Fashion Show/Tea Party, or an educational event like Back to School Night or the Science Fair, come out an ENJOY the St. James experience.
